BROOD MARE BURNT IN TRAIN TRUCK

(P.A.) Napier, Dec. 19 Phaleron Sign, a brood mare owned by Nir. H. D. Matthews, Hamilton, was dpstroyed by lire in a truck while travelling by train from Hastings. It is presumed the straw in ‘the truck caught fire. The animal’s plight was noticed only when the flames had a good hold. In an effort to save other portions of the goods tram a dash was made to Olane, where there was an ample watei supply available. The truck was removed from the train. No further damage was done.
