PRESENTING DECORATIONS

KING TO SEND LETTERS INSTEAD OF APPEARING PERSONALLY

London, Dec. 17. His Majesty since the outbreak of the war personally presented more than 40,000 decorations, states the Press Association. There are still about 5500 outstanding awards to be conferred. His Majesty cannot present the remaining decorations personally without interfering with State business, but as he regards each award as his own personal gift he has derided that in future, orders, decorations and medals shall be dispatched bv post accompanied by a personal letter from himself. Only such high awards as the Victoria Cross and the George Cross will continue to be presented.
