VALUES AT ADDINGTON
(F.A.) Christchurch, Dec. 19. Entries of fat lambs and fat sheep were far below expectations at today’s double market at Addington. Prices for lambs were, on the average, 4s higher than those of last week, while the average rise on £at sheep of all classes was 2s a head. Porkers also showed a substantial rise. The market was firm for best beef. A small entry of store sheep met with a sound sale.
Store Sheep.—An entry of 1400, mostly comprised of 2-tooth ewes and wethers. There was a small attendance, but prices showed no material change from those of last week. Twotooth ewes made up to 31s, and best 2-tooth wethers sold up to 26s 6d. The first line of 2-tooths to be forwarded by direct rail from Blenheim to Addington sold for 245. Local sheep made from 22s to 24s 9d. A few ewes and lambs were offered, one pen making 20s 6d, all counted.
Fat Sheep.—An entry of about 3800, the smallest yarding at the double market for many years, and the sale was a sound one throughout, prices for both wethers and ewes showing a rise of from 2s to 3s a head. The best price for wethers was 58s Id. and the general range for good quality ranged from 46s 7d to that figure. Ewes found an exceptionally sound sale, the highest price for young sheep being 37s Id. Best aged ewes made up to 32 s Id.
Fat Cattle.—An entry of 740 against 4558 last week. The quality of the steers was good and included a consignment from Blenheim. Probably due to the smaller entries than usual in the fat lamb and fat sheep section, the market firmed for best quality steers, with a slight advance on last week's improved sale, but secondary cows only maintained recent figures. There was a general easing over the later stages, particularly for unfinished cattle. On the average the sale was lower than that of a week ago. The best beef made to 53s ner lOOlbs.; good ,to 50s; medium, to 465; best cow beef, to 395; secondary, to 325. . Extra prime steers made £22 to £25; prime, £lB to £2l; extra prime heifers, £l5 to £l7 10s; prime, £l2 10s to £l4 10s; extra prime cows, to £l4; prime, £lO to £l2 ss.
Pigs.—The porker entry was mainly of good quality, and values rose by 5s to Bs. Values for choppers rose by 20s to 30s a head. The sale of baconers also was sound, but prices eased by 2s to 3s a head. The average price per lb. was Bld to 91d.

Lewis, comprised certificates for pupils who passed from the sixth standard and the Ruscoe Cup, for boys and girls.
