END-OF-YEAR GATHERINGS ARRANGED

Primary schools in Wanganui break up for the year this week. Tawhero School will hold its big day to-morrow, when the annual calf and pets’ parade will be held. There will also be the presentation of special prizes to the junior classes and a short programme of carol singing. No official break-up activities for parents are planned at Wanganui East School, the headmaster, Mr. R. N. Wilson, stated, but there will be the presentation of certificates, and Forms 1 and 2 had arranged an evening party to-night ts» say farewell to those pupils who would not be returning. Keith Street School on Saturday held a successful garden party which was attended by a large crowd of parents. An exhibition of marching by the girls’ midget marching team provided the highlight of a short programme, which also included singing by various classes. Music was provided by the Band of the Second N.Z. Armoured Regiment. The breakup will be at 10.30 a.m. to-morrow, when the chief speaker will be the chairman of the Wanganui Education Board. Mr. E. E. Hemingway. The Gonville School held a picnic at Aramoho Park on Monday. Last night Standards 4, 5 and 6 held a party. This afternoon parents will be entertained by various class items. Last night the Wanganui Intermediate School held an "open night,” when parents and friends attended in large numbers to see the different exhibits. The break-up is scheduled for to-morrow afternoon. Queen’s Park School will break up to-day (Wednesday) at 2 p.m., when the chief event will be the presentation of the Tutty Memorial Prize awarded each year to the boy or girl showing the greatest consideration and who attains most closely to the school motto, “Service Before Self.” Arrangements for the afternoon are in the hands of the Parents’ Association.
