OBITUARY
MR. M. J. BLANCHFIELD. The death has occurred at Te Kuiti, of Mr. Martin Joseph Blanchfield, aged 83. Born in Ontario, Canada, the deceased, after coming to New Zealand, farmed in many parts of the Auckland Province and owned stores in various districts. He was the prime mover in the first motor races to be held on Muriwai beach. Mr. and Mrs. Blanchfield celebrated their golden wedding on April 25, of this year. His wife died a few weeks ago. He is survived by two sons. MISS A. MCDONALD. The death has occurred of Miss Annie McDonald, aged 84, the last member of a well-known pioneer family of the Whangarei Heads. Miss McDonald arrived in New Zealand with her parents from Scotland over 70 years ago. They settled in McLeod's Bay, where they lived for many years. Some 10 years ago Miss McDonald took up her residence in Whangarei. MR. D. J. GRANT. The death has occurred at Napier, of Mr. Douglas Joseph Grant, aged 82, for many years a resident of Bluff Hill. Mr. Grant married Miss Florence Conroy at Napier in 1894. With h's brother John, who died in 1912, Mr. D. J. Grant was well-known for his association with the farming activities of their father, which included “Puakowhai” (Hastings) and “Kaitoke” (Dannevirke), as well as “Euntside.’ Mr. Grant is survived by liis wife, and a daughter, Mrs. F. Cordingley, Wairere, Porangahau. DIRS. L. REID. Mrs. Louisa Reid, Hastings, who died recently, was a member of one of New Zealand’s earliest pioneer families. Born at Fernside, Canterbury, 67 years ago, she was a daughter of the late Mr. Richard Meredith Cust, North Canterbury, who at one time was a member for Hurunui electorate in the House of Representatives under the Seddon regime. Mrs. Reid lived most of her married life in Waimate and Oamaru having resided ir Hastings for the last eight years. She is survived by two daughters and one son. MRS. M. MAHONY. The death has occurred of a wellknown Napier citizen, Mrs. Maria Mahony, wife of Mr. J. P. Mahony, Thackeray Street. Born in Napier, Mrs. Maliony resided all her life in the town, and was known for her generosity and work in several charitable organisations. Mrs. Mahony leaves four sons, and two daughters.
