THE DAVIS CUP
N.Z. TO PARTICIPATE (P.A.) Christchurch, Nov. 20 The New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has decided to challenge for the Davis Cup, competition for which will be resumed next year. The association recently received advice that as a result of the visit to the United States of Sir Norman Brookes, president of the Lawn Tennis Association of Australia, arrangements had been made to resume international competition for the trophy with Great Britain controlling competition among nations challenging in the European zone and the United States controlling the American zone. New Zealand will challenge in the Pacific zone, which was established in 1936, hut which has not so far been used. The New Zealand team will have to be selected on form shown in the present season and particularly in the New Zealand championships at Auckland in January. The resumption of the Davis Cup competition opens up the possibility of visits next season from American and other international teams which will visit Australia for the challenge round and possibly for the inter-zone finals.
