Miss Harford, of Hawera. has been on a short visit to Wanganui. Mrs. R. M. McLennan, of Wellington, is visi.ing her mother, Mrs. J. T. Worry, St. John’s Hill. Mrs. R. E. Taylor, of Palmerston Nortii, who with her infant son has been the guest of Mrs. E. J. Chesswas, Field Street, Upper Aramoho, has returned home. Mr. J. G. Swainson, Pahiatua, has been spending a few days in Wanganui as the guest of her sister, Mrs. A. G. Cross, Hipango Terrace. Arrivals From Canada A party of 27 wives, seven children and two fiancees of New Zealand servicemen arrived at Auckland on Sunday by the Empire Haig from Canada. 'The majority will make their homes in the Auckland province. Kitchen Cift Party Miss Fay Hackett was hostess at a kitchen gift party at her home in Gonville last Thursday for Miss Helen Hackshaw, whose marriage will take place snorliy. The guest of honour was the recipient of some very nice and useful kitchen gifts. Porirua Christmas Fund The Christmas fund for the women of Porirua Mental Hospital now stands at ill 16s lOd. Further donations are:—Central branch Women’s Labour Party f2 2s; Women's Prayer Circle £1 3s; Miss Jordan 7s 6d; Mrs. Lilburne 4s 6<i; Miss Willis 10s; M. Cooper 10s; Mrs. Rogers £l. This fund closes early in December. St. John’s Hill Women Mrs. C. P. Brown president of the St. John’s Hill Women’s Organisation, presided over a good attendance of members when a meeting was held to discuss arrangements for the annual garden party to be held early in December. It was decided that the proceeds of the effort be divided Between Heritage and Scots Memorial Hall. Members expressed their willingness to assist the various stalls, and arrangements were made for the entertainments.
