NATIONAL SAVINGS

ESSAY COMPETITIONS AT ARAMOHO Eighty-five entries were received by the Aramoho National Savings Committee in their recent essay competition on “Why we should continue with National Savings.” The competition was open to children in Standards 4, 5 and 6 at the Aramoho School and Holy Infancy Convent School, 62 being received from the former and 23 from the Convent. Prizes totalling £2 3s in value were donated by Mrs. L. E. Bridges and Mrs. A. Hawkins. “The standard of the essays submitted was remarkably high, particularly those of the girls,” states the judges’ report. “Facts were presented accurately and their arguments indicated a fair depth of thought. The results were of great promise and a credit to the schools concerned.” Following is a list of prize-winners: Girls. —May Eyers (Aramoho) 1. Colleen Benefield (Convent) 2, Janet McAllister (Convent) 3. Consolations: Maria McAllister (Convent), Raonl Caird (Convent), Judith Harris (Convent), E. Edwards (Aramoho). Boys.—Tan Rogers 1. Bruce Kennedy 2 Maxwell Kingston 3. Consolations: Tan Pritchard, A. Sturzaker. Roger Chanley, Nelson Tizard. No boys’ entries were submitted from the Holy Infancy Convent.
