PICTURESQUE WEDDING

HUNT—HOOD Wanganui witnessed a very pretty wedding, and one of great interest, at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Gonville, on Saturday. September 15, the bride being Barbara Jean, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Newton-Hood, of "Rockdale," King's Avenue, Gonville, and the bridegroom, Warrant-Ollicer Stanley Graves Hunt, youngest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. E. G. Hunt, of Wanganui. The Rev. D. Rosenthall officiated at the ceremony which was fully choral. Mrs. D. Abernethy was the organist. Beautiful daffodils and large baskets of arum lillies arranged on the alter and chancel made an attractive setting for the bridal group. Preceded by the vicar and choir, to tne singing of the hymn "O Perfect Love,” the bride, who was escorted to the chancel steps by her father, made a charming picture in her gown of ivory matt-embossed satin, fashioned on Victorian lines. The full circular skirt formed a graceful long train, and a heart-shaped neckline featured the close-fitting bodice which had long sleeves wide at the shoulder line and tapering to points over the hands. The silk embroidered cameo-cream tinted veil, arranged beneath a coronet of orange blossoms fell in soft folds to form a second long train. The veil and orange blossoms were a gift from Mrs. H. M. Armitage, a triend of the bride’s family. A lovely heirloom of the bridegroom's family, made a perfect finishing touch to the gold locket of the Victorian era, an lovely gown. She carried a shower bouquet of cream daffodils, stock, hyacinths, freezias, sweetpeas and cyclamen,' intermingled with maidenhair fern. In attendance were three bridesmaids, Miss Audrey Hood, sister of thr bride, Miss Nola Hawke and Miss Juan McLean. They wore graceful and colourful frocks of silk georgette in shades of daffodil soft green and heliotrope respectively. The tightlitting bodices were fashioned with circular yokes in front, trimmed with self-frilling. From the long hiplines fell circular skirts which formed slight .rains. Picture hats of the same material to correspond with the colour of each frock, with the three shades plaited round the srowns, and natural primroses on the brims, were worn. Each ’maid carried a shower bouquet of daffodils, freezias, and polyanthus shaded from lemon to deeper tonings of gold, and maidenhair fern. Flying-OHlcer A. Kitto, D.F.C., of Tokomaru East, was best man, and the groomsmen were Flight-Lieuten-ant Jenkinson and Pilot Officer J. Simpson. The ushers were Messrs S. Armitage ana' Derek Armitage. During the signing of the register, the bride's sister. Miss Audrey Hood, sang Gounod's “Ave Maria.” At the reception she sang “Through the Years” and “Blue Birds of Happiness,” accompanied by Mrs. Abernethy (piano) and Mrs. W. Shardlow (violin). On leaving the church the bride was presented with a small satin horseshoe adorned with orange blossom, by Diana Benson. About 120 guest attended the reception held in the Savage Club Hall, where the floral decorations were in colour scheme to tone with the bridal frocks. To receive her guests, Mrs. Newton-Hood wore a smart ensemble in muscatel shade with matching hat trimmed with velvet roses, and her shoulder sprav was of orchids. She was assisted ’by the bridegroom's mother, who was attired in a navy blue ensemble with touches of gold, and hat to match. She wore a spray of gold freezias. The Rev.
