Ministers—Bevin, Byrnes, Molotov, Soong and Bidault—try to find a framework on which to base the peace of Europe? Allowing for some changes, largely brought about by man's progress and inventive mind, the problems at St. James’ must seem very much the same as arose in the Qual d’Orsay in 1919, when "The Tiger” growled, a Welshman argued and an American felt disillusioned and Jost. They founded lhe Treaty of Versailles at Paris in 1919. What are they foundat St. James’? Generations of to-mor-row will know and perhaps will think as much of what they do as we think of the Treaty of Versailles. Will ideals (Wilson had them) survive? Or will demands for utter destruction of our enemies (Clemenceau wanted that', or blind faith in a League of Nations founded oin poper (Britain did Just (hat) emerge from St. James? No man can tell, but let us hope that there is brought to the deliberations of those men a clearer, better understanding of peace, and how to found it than has come to men whose souls must be stirring now as once again man tries to bring calm, contentment and love to the European scene, so well marked by graves, memorials and good resolutions. A SENSIBLE CENSUS.
