Many prospective buyers stated that had they the feed they would have been purchasers of store sheep, reported the auctioneers after yesterday's weekly Wanganui stock sale, when there was a dull market for store sheep. Dairy cattle of poor to medium quality met rather a “sticky” sale, the'feed position also affecting the market. Fat sheep and all classes of store cattle sold at late rates.

Gray, said that both Canada and Australia had decided to carry on with the Air Training Corps in their respective countries. So far, no official decision had been made in New Zealand, but it is hoped that the same policy will be followed here,” he added.

Whale Skeleton Completed. The curator of the Wanganui Museum, Mr. G. Shepherd, has completed the erection of the skeleton of a whale found on the Castlecliff beach, in December, 1943. The whale was full grown, being 20ft. in length. Since 1930, Mr. Shepherd has collected four specimens of beaked whales. They were found at Ohawe beach, near Hawera, Waverley beach, at the mouth of the Kaitoke stream, Wanganui beach, and on the South Spit, respectively. Two of the whales were 20ft. and two 17ft. in length. Distinction For Marton. Further distinction has been achieved by Marton in the National Savings campaign, stated the organiser, Mr. B. E. Williams, speaking yesterday on behalf of the district committee. Marton has exceeded its annual quota for the year ending March 31, 1946, thus becoming one of 38 officers in the Dominion subscribing the annual quota. Of these five are in the Wanganui district, and already four more, Patea, Hunterville, Aramoho and Wanganui, are within striking distance of their objective.

Keeping Fit A good way of photographers keeping lit for their work was by taking an active part in some sport, said the president of the New Zealand Professional Photographer’s Association, Mr. M. L. Lampe, addressing delegates at the opening of the association’s annual conference in the Savage Club Hall yesterday. He added that he had found tennis and life-saving valuable in keeping him fit. A Christchurch delegate had told him that his method of keeping fit was to indulge in boxing two nights a week, but personally he thought this a little too strenuous, Mr. Lampe added. Land Sales Court

A sitting of the Land Sales Court, which has been se' up to hear any appeals which may be lodged against decisions of land sales committees, which will be held in Wanganui today. Mr. Justice Finlay will preside, lie has visited Wanganui previously and on one occasion presided at the quarterly sessions of the Supreme Court. One of the activities of the Taihape Athletic Club in past years has had little to do with athletics and cycling. It has been the policy of weekly visits being paid to patients at the public hospital, and these have invariably been appreciated. At the annual* meeting on Monday night the chairman, Mr. H. D. Gray, reported that the visiting had lapsed during the past few months, partly because he had been absent, from town and partly because the fund used for this purpose had reached a low ebb. The committee had deemed it advisable to conserve the remaining funds to he u.-ed for returning members who might have to enter hospital on their return.
