VEGETARIAN SOCIETY

At the usual monthly meeting of the Vegetan.an Society, held in the Y.M C.A. Lounge on Tuesday afternoon, a practical demonstration of the making of winter salads was given by Miss Ashmore, of the Wanganui Health Centre. Nearly 30 different leaf and root vegetables, all easily grown or obtainable at this season were pressed into service. The results, garnished in various patterns with the more colourful vegetables and fruits, presented an attractive and appetising display and were carried off in triumph by many housewives who found their tea problem unexpectedly solved for one night at least. The chairman thanked the speaker, and in presenting her with a spray of violets frecsias and rosemary, hoped that though not included as an ingredient of any of the salads, the rosemary might nevertheless play its traditional role in the stimulating of memory.
