There was a good attendance of members of the Ohingaiti branch at its meeting on August 6.
A discussion on the census and country quota took place. To test the feeling of the meeting for future reference about sixty per cent, were in favour of some effective action being taken if the need arises.
The following were appointed 1o the Provincial Conference at Marton: Mr. S. J. H. Lovvry\ delegate to Provincial Conference: Provincial Committee (dairy section). Messrs. Colin Mclntyre and W. Morton: sheen (meat and wool section'. Messrs. J. S. Hamomnd -and Gordon Dalziell; potato section. Messrs. Lloyd Rowe and L. R. Dalziell. It was decided that the Federated Farmers should carry on with the inter-provincial conference. After a considerable discussion on the ouestion of petrol, it was nointed out that tl)e cancelling of the licences nf four gallons and under was unfair. as it. prevented the tvres r>n the cars from the right to re-treading. It
v-as decided to try and got the licences reinstated. YOLNG FARMERS’ CLUB
The debate which was advertised to be held last week had to be postponed and the final debate in the southern zone of the Wanganui district contest. will take place in St. Stephen’s Parish Hall. Marton, to-morrow (Tuesday) at 8 p.m.
The subject is “That Hip natural product is of more economic value than its synthetic counterpart.” Marton will take the negative and Bulls the affirmative. Mr. K. A. Williams, of Marton, will be the adjudicator. All members are asked to attend. MARTON JOCKEY CLUB ANNUAL MEETING
The annual general meeting of the Marton Jockey Club will be held in the Druids’ Hall on Wednesday, August 15, at 8 p.m., when the report and balance sheet will be presented and the election of officers take place. A ballot will also be taken for the election of five committeemen and ballot papers must be returned to the secretary by 7.30 p.m. on Wednesday evening. CONVENT PUPILS CONCERT Judging by the success of the full dress rehearsal and the number of seats reserved by the public it is safe to forecast an evening of exceptional entertainment by the pupils of the Sisters of Mercy, Martoi), when the curtain rises in the Town Hall at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14. All tastes will be catered for from the playing of the “Warsaw Concerto” by Dawn Zayonskovvski down to the lighter side of humour and pathos, concluding with a stirring “Peace Tableau” which is sure to find a place in the hearts of all present. Patrons are requested to be seated at 7.45 as the programme will commence at 8 p.m. _______________
