SEVENTH ANNUAL MEETING

A satisfactory years’ work was reported at the seventh annual meeting of the Wanganui Mothers Helppts' Society held on Friday in Dustin’s tearoom, Mrs. A. H. Mac Lean pre id ng. There was a good attendance of members and visitors. A motion of sympa hv was passed to those who had suffered bereavement since the Irst meet ing. homes, but there had been a still huger number of requests which the soc.ety most relucti-ntly had been obliged to refuse, owing to tne uilficulty of getting suitable women as helpers, rhe society could keen at least three permanent housekeepers employed, it. is felt that it is pan.cularty essential that women wnose husbands are fighting overseas snouid be given all possible help. Tne need for extra women as helpers was stressed by the president, wno said that after the war was over there may be a swing back when women will take up the work again. The Society was noping to expand the work. Mrs. C. S. Ryan (treasurer) on behalf of the wmmitee expressed appreciation of the work of the president and secretary. She said that no one, unless they were behind the scenes could possib'v know how much work they did for the society. Tributes were paid to the officials and committee by Mrs. A. R. Gower. A bouquet of violets was presented to Mrs. Mac Lean bv Mrs. C. A. Piper. Posies were handed to other officers, also to Mrs. Denniston, and those contributing to the short programme. Songs by Mrs. Russell Scoular and Mrs. S. Baddeley were very much enjoyed. Mrs. Lennon was the accompanist. Added to the list of membership wore R. G. Talboys. G. Marshall. P. Isaacs. T. Hine and Mr. Hope Gibbons. The bowls and vases of japonica. snring flowers nnd blossoms, were arranged bv Mosdames A. Spurdie. C. A. Piper an I H. L. William-’.
