Woman M.P.’s Tour. Labour member of Parliament for Christchurch East, Miss M. B. Howard, will shortly undertake a tour of the Wanganui and Taranaki districts. She will be in Wanganui next Wednesday, and that evening will attend a meeting in the City Council Chambers. On the following day she will go to Waverley, concluding hex’ tour in Taranaki on May 10. Committee Congratulated. Congratulations on (heir raising £3OOO for the Air Force Queen, during 1 he recent patriotic carnival were extended to the committee headed by Mr. A. Tong at the Wanganui Junior Chamber of Commerce luncheon recently. Mr. B. E. Williams said the committee had practically done the job itself. The result ehtgured well lor future activities undertaken by the Junior Chamber. Meat Price Schedules. An important meeting of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union will be held at Duigan’s Rooms, Ridgway Street, this (Friday) morning at 11 o’clock, when Mr. Lloyd Hamond, of Hunterville, a member of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board will explain price schedules and other matters. The meeting is open to any farmer who may be interested in the subject. Indoor Bowls Prospects Evidence of the keen interest displayed in indoor bowling was remarked on by the retiring president, Mr. P. Thompson, at the annual meeting ;of the Wanganui Indoor Bowling Association. He stated that five new clubs were joining, and it was anticipated that 20 teams would be nominated for the competitions commencing early in May. An opening night is to be arranged. Victory Loan Message An encouraging message was received yesterday by delegates to the Wanganui District Victory Loan conference from Mr. J. Gillick, chief accountant at Hamilton. Mr. Gillick was formerly district organiser in Wanganui for National Savings anc for successive war loans, and he telegraphed: “Keenly interested in your campaign. You have the team and the spirit to succeed. Wanganui never fails. Good luck to you all.” Visiting Rowing Crew To row the eight oar crew of the Wanganui Technical College on the Wanganui River to-morrow, the Mt. Albert Grammar School crew, from Auckland, arrived in the city yesterday. The Grammar eight won the Auckland secondary schools eight oar championship for the eighth consecutive year last Saturday. A heavy crew, it averages list 71bs. The Technical crew averages lOst 71bs. To familarise themselves with the course the visitors were out on the river yesterday afternoon. Complimentary Lunche o n Wanganui city and district men who returned from the Middle East with the recent furlough draft will be entertained at a civic Deception and complimentary luncheon in the U.S.A, Hall, St. Hill "Street, to-morrotv. Invitations are now being sent out, but the reception is open also to any other returned men or women who have been entertained at a similar gathering since arriving back from overseas. These men are asked to call at the City Council office for an invitation. St. John’s Hill Buses. As the new bus which the Wanganui City Council will commission for the St. John’s Hill service in the near future has a greater seating capacity than other vehicles, the relief bus is to be discontinued. A recommendation to this effect was made by the Tramways Committee in a recent report adopted by the council. The engineer and manager, Mr. L. F. Row, may exercise his descretion, however, and provide additional transport when exceptional circumstances or loading conditions make it necessary. Country Children’s Visit. Country school children who will be visiting the city during the next term holidays under the sponsorship of the Wanganui Junior Chamber of Commerce will be conveyed free on trams and elevators, a decision to this effect having been reached by the City Council when adopting a recommendation from the Tramways Committee. The concession will not apply to individual children, hut will cover organised parties and not more than one child host to each visitor will qualify tor free transport on such occasions. Holmdale For Overhaul. The coastal motor-ship Holmdale, which left Wanganui on Tuesday night for Wellington, will go into dock at Port Chalmers next week for her annual overhaul and survey. She will be replaced in the Dunedin-Welling-ton-Wanganui service by the motorship Holmburn, due at Castlecliff tomorrow with cement from Tarakohe. After discharge she returns to Tarakohe to load cement for Wellington, and will subsequently go to Dunedin and Oamaru to load for Wanganui. The Holmburn is wel-known on the New Zealand coast and was formerly the Port Whangarei. Shipping Delayed. Coastal vessels in port at Wanganui yesterday were again delayed by rain, frequent interruptions being necessary because of the heavy squalls. The m.v. Gale, which arrived early in the week with a full load of general cargo from Lyttelton and Timaru, began discharge on Tuesday afternoon, but is not expected to complete till to-day. after which she goes to Wellington and southern ports. Also in port yesterday was the steamer Titoki. which arrived on Tuesday with 600 tons of coal from Westport. A start was made yesterday with discharging the vessel, but it is not likely that she will complete till to-morrow. From Wanganui the Titoki will proceed to Tarakohe. where she loads cement for Wellington.
