WEATHER IN MAY
WANGANUI CONDITIONS HEAVIER RAINFALL RECORDED According to the official figures, supplied by the Wanganui City Council, the rainfall for last month was heavier than that recorded for May, 1943. The total fall for last month was 2.33 in., when rain fell on 13 days. This compares with 1.83 in. for May, last year, when rain was recorded on 10 days. The heaviest fall on any one day last month was on May 27, when .65in. of rain fell. Last month each day had its quota of sunshine, the total amount being 171.9 hours. The average number of hours of sunshine was 5.5 hours. The maximum was recorded on May 13, when 9.5 hours was registered. I The total hours of sunshine for May last year was 164.9 hours. The highest maximum temperature was 66.4 degrees on May 8 and the lowest minimum was 35 degrees on the 25th. May 1-1 last year, and 33 degrees for the lowest minimum. The lowest grass temperature was 32 degrees on May 25, and the range in temperature recorded was 14.5 degrees. Wind miles recorded totalled 3822 as against 4331 for the same period last year. Last month dew was recorded on five days, and seven frosts were registered. There was fog on two days.
