The Rev. H. Leonard Hurst, Australasian secretary of the London Missionary Society, has arrived in Wellington, and expects to spend about a month in New Zealand before returning to Australia. The Rev. G. W. Playfair, a field director of 25 years’ experience with the Sudan Interior Mission, has been appointed general director of the mission, according -to advice received in Wellington from Toronto, Canada. Mr. H. Whiting, sole selector for the Wanganui Rugby Union, is still undergoing treatment for t an injury suffered to his head at Imlay works hast Tuesday morning. A frozen sheep carcase fell on him from a fair height, and he had to be treated at the Wanganui Public Hospital for a scalp wound and concussion. He is still unable to resume work. Lieutenant, and Quartermaster H. D. | Harvey ceases to be seconded to the 2nd N.Z.E.F. and is reposted to the New Zealand Permanent Staff. He is to he major (temporary) and quartermaster while holding the appointment of .adjutant of a camp. Major Harvey was at one time attached to the Area Office, Wanganui, and was commissioned soon after the outbreak of war. Major (temporary) J. Coley, Wellington West Coast Regiment, is posted to the retired list with the rank of major. Flight - Sergeant P. W. Burton, R.N.Z.A.F., formerly of Wanganui, has been promoted to the rank ol pilot, officer, acording to the New Zealand Gazette. He is a member of a well-known cricketing family, and is at present stationed in* England. Lieutenant Aubrey Burton, 2nd. N.Z.E.F. and Pi lot.-Officer G. Burton, who has recently returned from operations in the Pacific, are brothers. Another brother. Pilot-Officer Jack Burton, after fighting air battles in Singapore, was reported missing in the Pacific several months ago.
