GALLANTRY IN ITALY
THREE WANGANUI AWARDS In recognition of gallant, and distinguished service in Italy, Lieut.-Col. Herbert Ellery Gilbert has been awarded the D.S.O. He is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Gilbert, Somme Parade, Aramoho. Lance-Corpl. (temporary) George Edwin Pritchard, whose address is given as that of his fiancee, Miss Ryder, of Wanganui, has been awarded the Military Medal, also for gallant and distinguished service in Italy. Private lan Kronast Bertie, a son of Mrs. G. E. Bertie, Aramoho, has also been awarded the Military Medal. Lieut.-Col. Gilbert attended the Wanganui Collegiate School from 1928 to 1933, and was head of Marris House in his last. year. On leaving school he was selected by the authorities for entry into the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Australia. Graduating from there, he received an apoointment in the New Zealand Forces. He has been overseas since the. beginning of the war and has won rapid promotion in the field. While at Duntroon he played f6r the Rugby fifteen.
