RECORD HOLIDAY TRAFFIC (P.A.) Auckland, Jan. 4. The total of 4,767,550 passengers carried by the Auckland tramways over the Christmas and New Year period was a record for the history of the service. The number carried during the corresponding period a year ago was 4,531,200, showing an increase this year of 266,350. The huge total of passengers was carried this year during a period of 18 days between December 17 and January 3. The 1942-43 return is for a similar number of days between December 18 and January 4. The heaviest loading for one day this season was on Christmas Eve, when 348,407 passengers crowded into the trams. Tnis compares with the total of 336,092 carried on Christmas Eve, 1942, which was the heaviest traffic day of that season.
