CAKES FOR THE NAVY THANKS AND APPRECIATION “The ship's company of H.M.N.Z. corvette Killegray wish to tender their heartfelt thanks and appreciation of the ladies of the Marton district for cakes which were received aboard this ship. All were made by ladies from Marton—Miss Hammond, Miss Crabb, Mrs. L. G. Marshall. Mrs. Grubb. Mrs. Haise and Mrs. A. L. Wheeler and several other ladies. BULLS ROSE SHOW The Bulls Rose Show will be held in the Bulls Town Hall on Monday, November 22, and will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. The show is held under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Church, Bulls, and St. Martin's Church, Groatford. Produce, cake, garden and work stalls, also a baby show, will be among the attractions. Schedules may be obtained on application to Miss O. Levett, hon. secretary, Bulls. MARTON OLD BOYS’ FOOTBALL CLUB The Marton Old Boys’ Football Club intend holding, a dance in the. Empire Hall, Marton, on Saturday next, November 20, in order to raise funds to keep Rugby in existence in Marton. Wright's orchestra from Feilding will supply the music and there will be modern, old time and novelty dances. MARTON MUSICAL SOCIETY THE INSTRUMENTAL SECTION It is the desire of the committee of the Marton Musical Society that the instrumental section of the society should soon meet to arrange what form of work they can undertake. At the moment the instruments enrolled do not form a balanced combination and an appeal for more instrumentalists is made, especially violins and wood-wind. Instrumentalists in the district who have not already enrolled are asked to get in touch with the honorary secretary, Mr. A. J. Petrie (Bank of New Zealand) or the conductor, Mr. Ralph Lilly, 50 High St. (’phone 2316). It is hope-d to call a meeting of all the instrumental section in the near future to arrange a suitable combination to and discuss suitable work. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE NURSING CADET PARTY

The Marton Nursing Cadet Division held an enjoyable evening in the Parish Hall on Monday last to mark the termination of a successful year’s work. The evening was spent in playing games and dancing. The Ist Marton Troop of Scouts were guests of the evening. Among those present were Lady District Officer Mrs. Raine, Mrs. Grut, V.A.D. Commandant, Ambulance Officers Mesdames Baxter and Harvey, Cadet Supt. Mrs. Hillsden, Ambulance Division Supt. R. H. Turn bull. Scout Master Middleton. L.A.C. Ibbett acted as M.C. and Mrs. Ibbett was at the piano. . . , An apology was received from Marton Cub Pack. A presentation to Mesdames Hillsden, Baxter and Harvey was ma-de by three small cadets. Pat Brown, Rita Gorrie and Myra Brown arranged the entire programme. Sprays were presented to Mrs. Raine, Mrs. Grut, Mrs. Baxter and Mrs. Ibbett. A section of the Ambulance and Nursing Divisions of the Marton Division, accompanied by some of the Transport Section, will represent Marton at the Feilding annual inspection on Saturday next. AH members who have handed in their names will assemble at the Marton Post Office at 1 p.m. in full uniform. CIVIC THEATRE, MARTON Tingling, melodramatic action, the kind originated by the famous Dead End Kids and Little Tough Guys, is said to dominate their newest Universal picture, “Keep ’Em Slugging,’ at the Civic Theatre. The original story, by Edward Handler and Robert Gordon, deals with a hi-jacking enterprise in which the lads become involvpd A great metropolitan department store is the background for much of the thrilling entertainment. As employees of this institution, the boys have brand new opportunities to reveal their resourcefulness in coping with the criminals. Fans of western pictures have a treat in store for them in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s “Apache Trail.” Indian rains, gun duels, a family feud and a triangular love affair are crammed into hours of action. MARTON BRANCH LABOUR PARTY A meeting of the general and social committees of t'ae Marton Branch o. the Labour Party will be held on Saturday. November 20, at 8 p.m., in the Rifle Club Hall. Marton Junction. After the meeting supper will be served and opportunity will be taken to make a presentation to Mr. Barton. NATIONAL SAVINGS The deposits in the National Savings have been coming in very slowly this week, and the National Savings committee appeal to the depositors to make a big effort to have the flag flying once again.
