INTERNATIONAL MONTH OBSERVED Sister Plent was the speaker at th«. Westmere Women’s Institute on Tues day afternoon, when she spoke of he) native country, Denmark. This wa: fitting, as it was international observance. The speaker said the Danes are very industrious peonle and have great religious beliefs which are carried out to the letter. Sister Plenl gave a vivid picture of her country and the people’s mode of living anc working conditions. She was accorded a vote of thanks and presented with a nosy of flowers by the president, Mrs. F. H. Uttley, who presided and welcomed all. Three new members were enrolled. Many old and treasured article; were on view, some being over 100 years old and quite a number of
articles were from Cairo and the islands. Two soldiers’ parcels were drawn in favour of Seaman Hart and Private Cox, the gardening circle kindly donating one of the parcels. Mrs. H. Graham gave a comprehensive report on the half-vearly council meeting, and the three-minute report on the most interesting monthly meeting during the last six months. She was congratulated by the president and handed a shoulder spray. Mrs. Butler sang two songs and was the re-
cipient of flowers. The floral work was done by Mrs. G. Bergen. An exchange of Christmas gifts will be the feature of the December meeting. Mrs. N. Wallace and Mrs. C. Rountree were the judges for the competitions, which were as follows: —Best flower, Mrs. Reynolds 1. Mrs. McCarthy 2. Mrs. ‘ Hunwick 3; coat Mrs. Gibbons 1, Mrs. Prouse 2, Mrs. Butler 3; Christmas presents. Mrs. Rock 1. Mrs. Utt lev 2. Mrs. Wadham 3; stocks, Mrs. Woodley 1.
