Mr. C. A. Pratt has been appointed registrar of the Supreme Court and sheriff at Palmerston North.

Mr. J. Clapham has been appointed manager ot the Apia branch of the Bank of New Zealand. He was formerly accountant of the Suva branch. Mr. W. T. Ikin, manager for New Zealand of the A.M.P. Society, has returned to Wellington after a visit to Australia of several weeks’ duration. Lieutenant-Commander P. G. Connolly, M.P. for Dunedin West, has been demobilised from the Navy to enable him to carry out his political duties. Mr. J. Harold and Mr. G. P. Williamson were re-elected patron and president respectively at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association.

Squadron-Leader John Ramsey St. John, D.F.C., R.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. F. F. St. Jotin, 119 Tinakori Road, Wellington, has been awarded a oar to his decoration, according to advice receded by his parents. Mr. E. B. Lothian, the newly-ap-pointeci member to the Wanganui Education Board, was welcomed at the monthly meeting yesterday by the chairman, Mr. E. F. Hemingway. He takes the place of Mr. P. Munro, who has retired from the board. Dr. Howard Christie and Mr. A. W. J. Peacock were referred to at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association by the president, Mr. G. P. Williamson. As a mark of respect to their memory the meeting observed a brief silence. The death has occurred of Mr. Harry Moss, managing director of H. W. Moss and Company, tobacco merchants and indent agents, aged 78, reports a Wellington Press Association message. For many years he was a figure on the New Zealand and Australian turf and the owner of a number of well-known horses. He is survived by his wife, two daughters and three sons. One daughter is Mrs. Keith Stewart, wife of Brigadier Stewart.

Mr. James Perfect Laird, who died recently in his 80th. year, was the husband ot Mrs. F. A. Laird and the second son of the late Mr. James Laird, a former Mayor of Wanganui. Born in New Plymouth, Mr. J. P. Laird was educated in Wanganui and became a member of the firm of James Laird and Sons, seedsmen. He was a Justice of the Peace, a past district piesiderit of the Druids’ Lodge, and a. past president of the St. John’s Bov,’ling Club.
