CHILLED BEEF CONTEST First prize in the New Zealand Chilled Beef Championship when the carcases were judged on the hooks at the Imlay Works yesterday was awarded to an Aberdeen Angus crossed with a Shorthorn-Hereford placed third on the showgrounds and entered by J. Wyley and Sons, Fordell. These exhibitors were also awarded fifth and sixth places for beasts placed ninth and fifth respectively at the show, and obtained eighth position for a beast unplaced at the show. The second prize went to an Aberdeen Angnis-Shorthorn exhibited byJames Hunter, Fordell, and placed first at the show. Third prize when judging on the hooks was completed yesterday was awarded for a similar type of beast entered by the same exhibitor and placed fourth on Saturday. Fourth and seventh places went to K. McK. Duncan, Hunterville, for Aberdeen Angus cattle, the beast placed seventh on the hooks being awarded sixth position at the show. A Hereford entered by Lindsay Bull, Hunterville, was awarded second prize at the show, but was placed tenth on the hooks. Another Hereford entered by the same exhibitor, placed seventh on Saturday, was in the ninth position when judging on the hooks was completed. A competition held in conjunction with the Chilled Beef Championship was won bv M. Varley, Turakina Valley, with 76 points out of a possible 100, the runner-up being Mr. J. E. Rogers, also of Turakina Valley, with 75 points. The competitors were required to place the exhibits as near as possible to the position they would occupy when judging at the works was completed. The competition for judging the weight of a fat bullock was won by Miss R. Sewell, Wanganui, guessed the correct weight of 705ilbs. Three other competitors tied for second place, being lilbs. out in their estimate. , Cattle entered for the Chilled Beef Championship were judged at Imlay by Mr. E. Hansen, grader for the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board.
