EDUCATION BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD TEACHING APPOINTMENTS.

Ihe following teaching appointments were confirmed at the monthly meeting of the Wanganui Education Board yesterday:—Mr. K. M. Hepburn, assistant master, College Street’ Mr. N. Eccleston, assistant master, Fox ton D.H.

The following teachers’ resignations were received:—Mr. D. K. Reid, sole teacher, Tunanui Road; Mr. R H Newrick, assistant master, College Street; Miss R. F. Murphy, senior assistant mistress, Palmerston North Central; Miss J. G. Cooper, assistant mistress, Kakariki; Miss D. G. Anderson, domestic science mistress, Palmerston North Intermediate. In his report the chairman, Mr. E F. Hemingway, said he had attended a meeting of the Child Welfare Committee appointed by the board and had interviewed candidates for the Training College. In acknowledgment of the services given to the board by Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P., in regard to the Intermediate School at Palmerston North, the chairman stated that he had, on behalf of the School Committee and Parents' Association, made a presentation to him.

During the past month, in company with the board’s officers and the assistant Director of Education, the chairman had visited Raetihi, Ohakune, Horopito, and Mangatepopo schools.

Architect’s Report. The architect, Mr. E. R. Hodge, reported that the work in connection with the remodelling of the wooden building at the Bulls School is well under way. With the exception of painting reconstruction of one room has been completed and the room is being occupied temporarily. The larger room which will oe set aside tor infants, is well under way and the main construction work should be completed within the next week or 1(1 days. General repairs are being effected to the main brick building and the damaged plaster walls have already been repaired and distemperfng of the interior has been put in hand. Repairs to the out-buildings are also being effected. The whole of the constructional timber necessary for the reconditioning of the burnt out portion of the Taihape High School has been delivered to tne site and awaits the department’s authority to proceed with the work. Those present at the meeting were Messrs. E. F. Hemingway (chairman), W. G. Price, J. C. Batt (Wanganui), W. P. Mead (Raetihi), N. Bromiley (Waverley), W. 11. Brown and W. G. Black (Palmerston North), I. W. Mudford (Foxton), J. W. Batchelar (Waituna West), E. B. Lothian (Ohakune).
