HEAVY FIGHTING
CHINESE BLOW IN KIANGSI Recd. 6 p.m. Chungking, Oct. 1. Heavy lighting is in progress in the Fu River region in Kiangsi Province where the Chinese, after checking a Japanese advance, launched a determined counter-attack, says a Chinese communique. The Chinese also attacked enemy positions east of Canton, near the Can-ton-Kowloon railway, inflicting heavy casualties. The Chinese have beaten back a Japanese attempt to land troops in launches on the coast south of Canton. I I
