MAJOR JAPANESE DRIVES
Recd. 8 p.m. Chungking, Oct. 2. The Japanese launched major drives in the Chekiang, Kiangsu and Anhwei provinces, to which the Chinese are rushing reinforcements. Japan’s new offensives are believed to be aimed at. preventing the establishment of Allied air submarine bases which would threaten Japanese shipping lanes and Formosa.
