DEATH IN CALCUTTA

STARVATION TAKES TOLL OF 2982 London, Sept. 30. Since August 16. 5400 starving persons have been taken to hospital at Calcutta, where 1230 died, making the deaths in the city from starvation 2982. says The Times’ Calcutta correspondent. The Government has provided more than 4000 relief kitchens in the province. The Ministry is bringing in grain from other provinces, sending it from Calcutta and districts with a surplus to those with a deficit. Rice seems generally to have disappeared from the market.
