THE POST-WAR OUTLOOK (P.A.) Christchurch, Sept. 2. The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nash, gave an election address to an audience of about 800 in St. James Theatre, Christchurch, last evening. The address was broadcast. Mr. Nash was given an attentive hearing without interjections, and at the c*nd a vote of thanks and confidence was declared by the chairman, Mr. John Roberts, carried unanimously by a show of hands. The opinion that after the war New Zealand would have to have guaranteed prices and guaranteed markets was expressed by Mr. Nash. He thought they would be able to get agreements with Britain and other countries for this purpose. The Minister said that discussions along these lines would shortly take place. They were working to get. assured markets, in return for which they would have to buy goods, and he hoped they would be able to buy raw materials for New Zealand's secondary industries. Comparing the rise in cost in the food group alone, Mr. Nash said that since the beginning of the war New Zealand prices had increased by 8i per cent. In Canada the increase was 29 per cent., in Britain 20 per cent., and in Australia 15 per cent.
