PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. (0.C.) Patea, Sept. 1. The annual meeting of the Patea Presbyterian Church was held recently when the Rev. J. Miller presided. Tha annual report and balance-sheet were read and adopted, the latter showing a very satisfactory financial position. Reports of the year's activities were read by the following: Mrs. J. Martin (P.W.M.U.), Mrs. J. R. Hunger (Ladies’ Guild), Mr. D. Glenny (Bible Class and Sunday School), Mr. J. Martin (Alton, Kakaramea and Manutahi Bible Classes). The retiring managers. Messrs. W. T. Lamb, A. C. Burns and J. Greenhill, were re-elected. Mr. H. A. Sutherland, on behalf of the elders of the church and the congregation, thanked Mrs. Balsillie for her care of the interior of the church, Mrs. Naismith for providing flowers, Mr. J. A. Haswell for his untiring work as secretary, Mr. Don Glenny for his work in connection with the Bible Class and Sunday School. Miss Margaret Cowie. Mrs. J. Martin and Mr. Neil Sutherland, honorary organists, the laymen who had occupied the pulpit on occasions, members of the Ladies’ Guild, members of the P.W.M.U., Mr. E. F. Hemingway, honorary auditor and all who had assisted the church in any way. Mr. Sutherland also tendered a welcome to the Rev. James Patarson. who had taken temporary charge of the church. The management, Mr. Sutherland said, had decided not to lodge an appeal against military service on behalf of the Rev. C. F. Farr, as he felt he was of greater service as a padre. He had left the church in Patea in a very flourishing state. Mr. Sutherland concluded by thanking Mr. Miller for his help during Mr. Farr's absence. Mr. Miller welcomed Mr. Paterson on behalf of the congregation.
