DREDGE REFLOATED AT LYTTELTON
(P.A.) Christchurch, Sept. 1. The dredge Canterbury, which sank at its berth alongside No. 2 wharf, Lyttelton, on June 11, was successfully raised to the surface this morning. Pumping began this morning at 7 o’clock on the ebbing tide. At 9 a.m. the Canterbury’s bow pointed well up in the air out of the water. Half an hour later she had been hauled up •several feet into shallow water and much of the weight of water was taken off her stern. By this operation the dredge righted herself almost on an even keel. By 10.15 the vessel was afloat., fend gradually rose until the decks were well above water. As soon as the _ necessary arrangements for inspecting the vessel have been completed and it is considered safe to move her she will be towed to the dock, where a further survey will be made. Satisfaction with the success of the operations was expressed at the meeting of the Lyttelton Harbour Board this morning.
