SHODDY FOOTWEAR
RESTRICTIONS IMPOSED IN AUSTRALIA Recd. 6.30 p.m. Sydney, March 21. Action to check the sale of shoddy footwear was announced by the Controller of Footwear on Saturday. Nearly 2,000,000 pairs of boots and shoes produced annually in Australia are not fit to stand repairing by the [average bootmaker, said the Controller, who added that the Rationing Commission had based its footwear planning on the calculation that all hoots and shoes could be repaired at least twice. As a further deterrent Io inferior construction the manufacturer must stamp each pair.
