SUBURBAN BLACKOUT
NEW TYPE OF E.P.S. TEST A scries of district blackout trials will bo held in various ’Wanganui suburbs in the near future. Making this announcement yesterday, the E.P.S. organiser, Mr. 1. Manley, commented that the local trials would be distinct from the full blackout tests which would atfect tne whole of the city and suburbs. It was proposed to begin the series of suburban trials alter a start had been made with the training programme tor certain frontline personnel. Mr. Manley added that the regulations prohibited the use of the city's alarm system for local trials, but tne district controller (Mr. T. L. Seddon, Feilding) had granted a special concession. When local blacKout tests are held the full system will be used, but residents will be advised in advance of the suburb to which the sirens will apply. Local blackout trials will be held in the central city area, Wanganui East, Aramoho, St. John's Hill, College Estate district, Durie Hill, Gonville and Castlecliff.
No date has yet been fixed for the full-scale blackout trial which will also be held in the city and suburbs.
