Mrs. S. G. Thompson, Nelson, is the guest of her mother, Mrs. H. C. Taylor, Bell Street. Miss Andrina Allen, Hipango Terrace, left yesterday for Woodford House College, Hastings, where she has been appointed music and elocution teacher. Misses M. and J. Western have left Wanganui for Wellington, where' they will take up wartime appointments. Miss Gwen Brandon has returned to Wanganui after a holiday spent in Nelson, where she was the guest of Mrs. S. G. Thompson. Visitors to Wanganui at the weekend for the Abbott—Horsley wedding included Mrs. W. Dove, Auckland; Mr. and Mrs. J. Abbott, Matamata; Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Harris and Miss Ray Harris, Christchurch; Mr. and Mrs. C. Morrison, Wellington; Miss H. Drayton, Rangaiaua; Mrs. R. F. Harris and Miss R. Harris, Taumaranui, and Miss P. Hume, Auckland. The wedding took place recently in Christchurch of Marie Cadet de r ontenay, of Mauritius, and Eric Philpott, of Christchurch. The bride arrived in New Zealand eight months ago to marry Mr. Philpott, a pen irienci whom she had never seen. The petite French girl wore a bridal gown of white jersey silk and a hand-made lace veil which she brought with her from Mauritius, a trip which took six months.
