AGAINST PANIC
CONFERENCE DECISION AT WELLINGTON (P.A.) Wellington, March 15. Interests concerned and represented at a conference called by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, to-day stated their complete agreement that immediate effective action must be taken to safeguard New Zealand theatre-goers against such tragedies as have occurred during recent months overseas when panic had broken out. Much has already been done by the preparation of schemes for the training of theatre staffs and for the instruction of the public, but for one reason or another there has been a lapse in action. The decision to-day was that a regulation must be drafted immediately and made applicable in all cities and centres throughout the couuntry.
All speakers agreed that panic was a far greater danger than fire, and panic could be averted by staff training and public education.
The Minister said he was concerned only with the safety of the public, and suggested that the conference should approach the question in the same manner.
