FARMERS TO ORGANISE

PRIMARY PRODUCERS’ BODY FOR DOMINION

(P.A.) Palmerston North, March 15. Viewing the present and the postwar situation of the primary producers as calling for the utmost unity in the preservation of their interests and identity, the Wellington Central Provincial Executive of the Farmers’ Union is urging the creation of a national primary producers’ organisation incorporating all existing organisations such as the Farmers’ Union, the Sheepowners’ Federation and other like bodies.

Speakers urged that the time was never more opportune for the establishment of a national body embracing every farmer as the existing sectional representation was unable to achieve the best results. The recent decision of the Government over the 15 per cent, increase in wool price was cited as an illustration of the manner in which producers were deprived of their rights, and fear was expressed that future adjustments might be dealt with similarly unless the farmers were prepared to get together in one national organisation. This suggestion will be communicated to all other executives throughout the Dominion.
