WHERE IS HITLER?
MAY HAVE RELINQUISHED ARMY CONTROL
Recd. 6.30 p.m. London, March 12. It is reported, without confirmation, from Budapest that Hitler has relinquished command of the armed forces and has appointed a triumvirate ot von Kleist, Rommel and Doenitz, says the British United Press correspondent at Istanbul. Reuter’s* correspondent inside Europe states that Hitler at present is at Berchtesgaden recuperating from nerve strain.
The Fuhrer has postponed yet another anniversary speech, Berlin radio having announced that Heroes’ Day, on which Hitler invariably addressed the nation, was postponed from Marell 14 to March 21. This is the third time since December that Hitler* has disappointed the nation. The 8.8. C. to-night told Germans that Prefessor Sauerbruch, who operated on Hitler in 1934, had left Berlin for an unknown destination, also that the famous Swedish surgeon Professor Oliver Crona, visited Germany a few days ago without revealing his patient’s name. Mr. Sumner Welles told a Press conference at Washington that the State Department had received unconfirmed reports that Hitler was suffering a complete breakdown. Mr. Welles did not imply that the State Department attached much importance to this, but it merely confirmed that the reports received were similar to those published in the Press. Observers in London emphasise that it is not wise to attach too much importance to the spate ot Hitler rumours now current.
