RESISTANCE IN CRETE
EMPIRE AND PATRIOT TROOPS DEFY AXIS Recd. 6 p.m. London, March 10. Although the Allies evacuated Crete 21 months ago, the Axis forces are only masters of the coastal areas, says Reuter’s Istanbul correspondent. The whole interior of Crete and even some points on the south coast are in patriot hands. British Empire troops who took to the mountains when the Allies withdrew are among the well-armed lighting men defying the invaders.
