PATEA GOLF CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING HELD (0.C.) Patea, March 10. A satisfactory season was recorded in the annual report presented at tne sixth annual meeting of the Patea Golf Club.

The club’s finances were reported to be in a very sound state, liabilities which have been steadily reduced over the past few years, standing at £65. This amount represents deoentures taken up by members when the club was formed three years ago, and £2B worth of debentures were repaid during the year. Twenty-nine members are now in the fighting forces and two more—B. Usher and C. R. H. McFarlane—made the supreme sacrifice during the year. H. Flower and W. Griffiths are prisoners of war. During the year the club’s president, Major J. N. Anderson, was awarded the D.S.O. New members elected were Misses A. and M. King and Mr. A. Gregg. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. C. R. Honeyfield; president, Major J. N. Anderson, D. 5.0.; vice-presidents, Mr. D. Roots (actingpresident), Major R. W. Haddow (on active service), Mr. G. J. Broker, and I. A. Harkness; captain, Mr. M. J. Casey (on active service); vice-cap-tain, Mr. A. A. Gillon (on active service); vice-captain, Mr. G. S. Fraser; hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr. F. Bostock; assistant-secretary, Mr. F. H. Billing; committee, Messrs. Corbett, S. Edwards, Boswell, Oakley, Carey, McWilliam, and Gilbert; hon. auditor, Mr. G. J. Broker; hon. solicitor, Mr. S. G. Cathro. Reference was made to the valuable assistance and amount of work done for the club by the acting-presi-dent, Mr. D. Roots, who has always been a tower of strength to the club and also to the work of the hon. secretary, Mr. F. Bostock. A vote of thanks was passed in appreciation of the assistance given the club by the following: Mr. F. H. McCarthy, I. Honeyfield, C. Stevens, in connection with the club’s farming operations, K. Parker, A. Canty, Basil Roots, Arthur Taylor, and Andy Bennie for assistance given on the links.

It was decided to hold a working bee on the links on Saturday afternoon, March 13.
