UNCUSTOMED WHISKY
DUNEDIN LICENSEE FINED (P A.) Dunedin, Feb. 19 As a result of a search, by Custom! and police officials, of the Empin Hotel, Princes Street, Dunedin, th< licensee, Robert Victor Geddes, ap peared before Mr. H. W. Bundle S.M., in the City Police Court to-daj and pleaded guilty to purchasing anc being in possession of uncustomet whisky distilled in New Zealand. It was stated in evidence that th< whisky was of the brand known a: Hokonui. At first defendant said ht bought it from Ballin's Breweries, bu' later admitted there was no truth ir this story but that he got it from « man whose identity was not disclosed The hotel was owned by a companj in which members of Bailin’s firm are shareholders. The magistrate, remarking that the protection of the public was a factot to be taken into consideration* imposed a fine of £4O on the first charge and £25 on the other, with solicitor a fee £6 6s in each case*
