DAY AND NIGHT RAIDS BY LUFTWAFFE (Recd. 7 p.m.) Rugby, Feb. 17. Enemy aircraft crossed the southwest coast of England at several points during the night. Some flew to places in South Wales, where bombs were dropped. Some damage was done and there was a small number of casualties, including some killed. Four enemy bombers were destroyed. Twelve persons were killed and many injured, including three W.A.A.F.’s killed and two injured, in a short, sharp raid on a South Wales town last night, which Berlin says was Swansea. A few bombers dropped flares and circled the town before releasing their bombs. A considerable number of houses, hotels and shops were damaged and fires started, most of which were out before morning. One bomb fell in hospital grounds and the patients were evacuated to other hospitals. Four low-flying Focke Wulf 190’s attacked an east coast town this morning. Bombs caused widespread damage, including three churches. Bombs dropped in a residential area bounced over street houses and damaged a block of shops. The raiders also machine-gunned workers’ houses, and a number of persons were sent to hospital.

The Ministry states that last night our bombers made another heavy, concentrated attack on Lorient. One enemy fighter was shot down by bombers. Fighter Command aircrait attacked enemy communications ana transport at many points in France, Be:>»Jm and nortn-west Germany. They destroyed an enemy aircrait. Two of our bombers are missing.

Squadrons of Spitlires carried out sweeps over the Dunkirk area to-day. Other lighters damaged locomotives in northern France. Four of our aircraft are missing.

R.A.F. aircrait operated all 14 days an i niphis n the rirst hall of Feoruary, states the Air Ministry. Phctograps show that the Germans suffered from accurate bombing at St. N;zan e on Tuesday, in spite of the enemy opposition which makes St. Nazaire one of the "toughest in the •100k.”—8.0.W.
