FRENCH WARSHIPS

UNDER ALLIED LEADERSHIP

(Recd. 9 p.m.) New York, Feb. 16. The French warships will be under French command but will operate under Allied leadership wherever assigned, Col. Frank Knox told the press. For example, in the Mediterranean they will be under Admiral Cunningham and in the Pacific under Admiral Nimitz. The assignment has not yet been decided. Col. Knox added that there were no new developments in connection with the warships in the French West Indies, including the aircraftcarrier Bearn and the cruisers Jeanne d’Arc. Emile and Berlin.
