UNFIT FOR HABITATION
MANALA HOUSE PROPERTY Hawera, Feb. 17. Notice had been served on the occupants to vacate the premises, but they had not done so, said Inspector J. Brimblecombe in the Hawera Magistrate's Court this morning, when he brought on for rehearing a charge laid in January against the owner of a Manaia house property, Haare Hawepatari, for causing a nuisance. At that sitting the magistrate, Mr. J. H. Salmon, made an order without penalty prohibiting the oremises to remain occupied after January 20. The inspector reported to-day that the house was still occupied. Mr. Salmon: The owner was here and stated his willingness to comply, but it is the tenant who is the trouble. It appears that there is need for separate action against him. Inspector Brimblecombe: That is the only alternative?
Mr. Salmon: Or have the house pulled down over his head. Inspector Brimblecombe: It is not my object to ask for a penalty against the owner.
The proceedings were adjourned until March 3 to enable other action to be taken.
