FEUDING EWE FAIR

The first Feilding Ewe Fait of the 1943 season was held in the Feilding yards on Friday, February 12. Because of restrictions on transport, both by rail and by road, this year’s fixture was conducted on somewhat different lines from former fairs. At Friday's fixture nothing other than one-shear ewes were offered, there being in all a total yarding o. 14,500 ewes, the majority of which were offered on behalf of breeders in the Manawatu district. The quality of the ewes in the main was up to the usual Feilding Ewe Fair standard, there being some particularly choice lines of ewes on offer and these sold under very strong competition.

Contrary to expectation the purchasing power was restricted solely to the ManawaLu and Rangitikei districts, there being no outside competition whatever. Despite this fact competition was just as keen on the final pens as at the start of the sale. It was evident after the first few pens were sold that a very strong sale would be the result. Buyers were assembled round the ringside all day and seemed anxious to fill their requirements in the way of really good ewes. Of the total yarding at least 90 per cent, were straight lines, the balance showing signs of road strain, and for these competition was not quite so brisk. Messrs. Abrhama and Williams report: Of our yarding of 5112 ewes, a total clearance was effected under the hammer, with the exception of 41. Included in our offering were some particularly choice lines of ewes sold on behalf of various breeders and graziers in the Manawatu. The following are a few of our major sales:— A/c W. H.
