LIVESTOCK MARKETS

RAETIHI EWE FAIR To an excellent attendance of buyers present from the Main Trunk, WaiKato, Waverley, Wanganui, and the West Coast of the North island, an excellent yarding of 25,000 breeding ewes was onierea at uie xtaeum Ewe Fair, states Messrs. Freeman R. Jackjon and Co., Ltd., in their report of the fixture. All classes were in excellent condition and a very keen sale resulted with a good clearance. Prices show a slight advance on recent fairs. Realisations on four ana iive-year ewes compared with our 1942 fair show an advance of 2s to 2s 6d, whilst two-tooth ewes were at last season s rates. A feature of the sale was the realisations on the five-year ewes which in many instances were within a few pence of tne four-year ewes. Despite heavy rain which set in early in the afternoon the attendance remained and the market held firm right to the end of the sale, in fact firmed up on the tail-end lots, one o± the last lots offered, a pen of sixyear crossbred ewes, making 17s. Top prices for four-year ewes was obtained for the Mason Estate at 25s 4d, whilst for five-year Messrs. Hunter and Sommervilie’s ewes made 22s Bd. Top price for two-tooth was secured by Mr. Frank Punch at 30s.
