Solar Activity. During the year 1942 the sun was observed at Karori, Wellington, on 153 days, and 73 distinct groups of sunspots were recorded, as against 110 in 1941. representing a decrease of 37, states Mr. G. V. Hudson. The solar disc was observed to be without spots on 12 days (May 31, June 1,5, 12, 13, 14, 16 and 30, July 18, September 2, October 7 and October 25. A verylarge sunspot of great complexity and intense activity was under observation from February 24 till March 6 and. owing to very favourable weather conditions, eight detailed sketches were made showing the progressive changes. Fairly large sunspots were also observed during the middle of Apil, and at the end of October. As the result of circumstances beyond control, no observations were made during the periods from September 7 to 18 and November 15 to December 15, and in this respect the year's record is incomplete.
