NEW YEAR HONOURS
CIVILIAN RECIPIENTS Rugby, Jan. 4. The second part of the New Year honours list is devoted to civilian awards for various forms of war service ashore and afloat, including members of the Merchant Navy and the civil defence services. There are 872 recipients of the Order of the British Empire (civil division) and the British Empire Medal, of whom 157 are merchant seamen. Among occupations represented are supervisors of telephone and telegraph exchanges, civil defence workers, local government officials, policemen, men and women of the fire service, war industry leaders, trade union officials, scientists and research workers, key men in shipping and shipbuilding, meteorologists, agriculturalists, school teachers, stationmasters, and army welfare workers.—B.O.W.
