PRICELESS HERD SLAUGHTERED

FOOT-AND-MOUTH DISEASE (Recd. 11.5 p.m.) London, Jan. 4. The famous Aldie Rosshire herd of Shorthorn cattle, which has formed the nucleus of many fine herds throughout the world, was slaughtered and burned following the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease. Ninety pedigree bulls, 18 pedigree cows, and 384 sheep were destroyed. The Aldie herd was conservatively estimated to be worth £lOO,OOO, thougn actually the herd was priceless. One Aldie bull brought £1675 at the Perth Shorthorn sales.
