FROM MARSEILLES

FRENCH MERCHANTMEN DISAPPEAR

(Recd. 9.55 p.m.) London, Jan. 4. The Lisbon correspondent of Th, Times says it is reliably reported from Marseilles that only 16 merchantmen remain of the 120 which were there when the Germans occupied the port last November.

The merchantmen which disappeared have been rushed to Itelian ports, whence they can presumably replace the losses on the Tunisian and Tripolitanian routes. Marseilles is now strongly defended. It is estimated that 20,000 of the Reichswehr are stationed there.
