MESSAGES FROM KING greetings”™ allies Rugby, Jan. 1. The King has sent New Year messages to President Roosevelt ar.d President Kalinin. To Mr. Roosevelt he telegraphed: "At the opening of a year so full of promise to the United Nations, I send the warmest wishes to you personally, to the gallant forces tinier your command, and all the American people. “I and my peoples are deeply ap* preciatie to all that the United States has achieved in the common cause under your inspiring leadership. We feel confident that the recent victories of the United Nations are hut the forerunners of the heavy blows which, during the coming year, they will together strike at the enemies of civilisation."
To President Kalinin, the King said; “It gives me much pleasure to address to you my best wishes for the new year now opening under auspices so full of promise of eventual victory over our common foe. I welcome also this opportunity of voicing the admiration felt by the British peoples for the indomitable tenacity of the armies of our Soviet allies, a tenacity which enabled them, after long and grievous sacrifices, to launch their counteroffensive with such brilliant success. “I am more than ever confident that, in full and. steadfast co-operation, the Allies will be able to impose their will with increasing force upon the enemies of freedom and humanity until final victory is achieved.”— 8.0.W.
