ACTIVE INTERVENTION IN NEAR FUTURE (Recd. 9 p.m.) Rio de Janeira, Jan. 1. President Getulio Vargas told officials of the Brazilian armed forces at a luncheon: “Brazil is preparing for active intervention on a fighting front which will not be limited to a simple expedition of symbolic units.” ! He added that Brazil was ready to fulfil its Continental obligations com- | pletely, and recognised the persistent need for wider intervention. Dr. Vargas said Brazil's Navy was I already participating in trans-oceanic I convoys of men and materials to the ■ war theatres and the Brazilian coast was being used as a base of operations for transportation to the war theatres.
